How to get more readers in a wedding photography blog
Famous wedding photographers usually create their own blog to tell their experiences and work. However, many professionals don’t know how to take advantage of their platform or bring more audience to their website.
In Wanderers Community, we will show you how to get more readers in a wedding photography blog, with tips as simple as a good headline, understanding SEO, appearing in directories or publishing your news with adequate tools.
Headlines, the entrance door of the visits
A recent study indicates that more than 80% of users stop reading at the headline. This indicates that only 2/10 users will continue reading our content.
We don’t need to tell you how fast everything is on internet, right? Users have less time to pay attention, so the headline is the gateway for a new follower or a future customer.
We are going to show you the keys to “manufacturing” a good headline:
- Make a headline that arouses the curiosity, you will achieve a large number of readers. Therefore, blogs with questions in the headline. “Do you wanna know my best trick as a wedding photographer? or “What makes me connect with a couple during a wedding”. These are good example of this practice.
Remember, anything that invites us to learn, browse, explore or discover is welcome.
- We love numbers in the headlines. A study done by MOZ indicates that the favorite headline for users is the one that includes numbers. We love lists, tops and any other news that includes numbers. That’s why entries like “My 10 favorite photos of 2018” or “5 tips to make photography in winter” will attract many readers.
- The same study indicates that our second type of headline favorite is the one that “appeals” directly to the reader. “Ways to relax before your wedding”, this type of content doesn’t speak directly about our services, but offers additional information to the couple that can make them value our brand. A photographer who cares about the well-being of the couple always suits.
- Call to action. This type of content is very widespread on internet, perhaps that is why is losing popularity. An example can be “Find out what I learned doing my first outdoor wedding”.
You should keep something in mind: don’t promise anything in the headline that you can’t fulfill in the text. While a lucky headline (with numbers, promises and superlatives) can be translated into thousands of clicks, what we need is more readers, not to mislead the public.
We assure you that if they enter your blog and find something different (or low quality) than expected, they will not return. Getting more readers in a wedding photography blog is important, but being honest is even more important to your brand.
Squeeze the SEO
Do you want to receive more traffic? To get organic searches (those that appear in the Google search results) you must squeeze the SEO. In another post, we give you some specific keys to improve the SEO of your website.
On this occasion, we are going to recommend a tool: YOAST. A plugin that you can install in WordPress that helps us to “score” our news and blogs. Yoast asks us for a keyword (or long-tail) and suggest us how we can improve SEO: including links, photographs with description and a series of details that Google look for on websites.
In addition, it helps us with the “readability” of our text. It is important that we write in the same way that people read on internet. This means, short paragraphs, repeating keywords, including images or videos, adding external links, connectors or subtitles.
Directories and advertising for the last push
Follow closely directories where your future clients or readers could find you. Enroll your blog in all those databases related to your subject. Some general directories where you can start are Spillbean, Blogflux, Blogorama or Best of the Web Blog Search.
Have you thought about advertising your news to get more readers in a wedding photography blogging? There are specialized tools such as Outbrain, which allows us to introduce our blog in related pages and successful newspapers (such as The New York Times). Advertising is automatic and the cost per click is usually quite low.
